I was encouraged by Dr Thackeray to put this on the forum and it relates to paediatrics and the magic of chiropractic! I don’t know what it is like in the US and Canada but certainly in Ireland and the UK there is a definite reluctance or fear when it comes to adjusting babies! Yet as Dr T just pointed out it can be one of the most incredible experiences you can ever have! Anyway my amazing wife just gave birth 2 weeks ago to our 4th child, and as those of you who have kids can no doubt attest to, the whole birthing process whilst amazing and magical is in reality an incredibly stressful and emotional occasion! Adam was 12 days overdue and although his movements were great the fluid levels were declining and the obstetrician was very keen and insistent to get things moving! So motivated by fear eventually Antoinette was induced, anyway after albeit a relatively short but incredibly painful labour relying on only gas and air and with a small bit of suction Adam was born weighing 9lbs 1oz! Now as is hospital policy over here the babies have to feed before the mothers are allowed to leave the labour ward to go to their “recuperation” rooms! Anyway initially Adam did not want to latch on, on either side, and the nurses were becoming somewhat agitated. With the baby boom going on over here the labour wards are in high demand but their stress obviously did not help my already traumatised wife! So I just did what I thought best and adjusted him! I did a simple supine leg check and following the protocol adjusted C1 with the Activator! What was incredible was that Adam immediately latched on and fed! It really was miraculous! One adjustment did that!
Now I am far from being an expert with paediatrics but what was great was that unlike in the past I had a) the confidence to do what was needed and b) the absolute certainty and belief that that was what was required! Personally I have never had any problems adjusting other people’s children but adjusting my own particularly when they were so young did pose a certain challenge! However, having spoken to Dr Thackeray for hours over the past few years I have benefited from her expertise and picked up so many tips and am so grateful for that!! Anyway I suppose the purpose of this posting is twofold one to remind us all to get our “why on” and secondly to encourage even the most hesitant amongst us to open our doors to helping more people and in particular more babies. Personally I always feel it is the greatest compliment that we can ever get when a parent brings in their little pride and joy!
