To help stop the flood of paper that we throw away, in the form of routing slips, we have decided to laminate them. We are having 20 slips make up and will use thin dry erase markers to write on them. The tech will then retreave them from the front and continue the cycle again.
Save the planet.
Routing Slips

The only patients we even use routing slips for are new patients. For the simple reason that all we do is adjust and we have a flat of $40 per adjustment regardless of number of regions addressed. My Fin. Tech enters them into the billing system later approriate to the code but for the flow of patients during clusters no fee slip is how we go because the only fee we have is $40. So if you all are doing therapies maybe another reason not to because although Dr. Ron your intentions are admirable just skipping a routing slip would be even Greener and easier. Don't know the particulars of your office's billing needs but just a thought.

Hi Ron :)
We incorporated a space for everything that we would have had on our routing slip (DC/CT communication and billing) on our travel card. It doesn't take up a lot of space, and it saves a step.Posted 8 months ago # -
Dr. Perron, do you have the patient sign anything to prove they were there that day? Do they get a receipt they paid? Wondering how it's done, my fee slip has a place for the pt to sign, I only have 1 fee, we mark day time date they are to return and record how they paid and how much. I would love to do with out them, they are 2 sheet ncr.

We still use a sign in sheet for proof of having been here. As far as receipts; credit card pymt they get a receipt automatically, no receipt for a check because they will get their cancelled check back, and we use a simple receipt book for cash payments which keeps it clean for the patient and the staff for any discrepencies later. We have not had any problems with any of the above. If a patient needs a statement as a receipt with codes, etc. we have a list and they are done every Tues. am for the one timers and once a month for anyone that wants one on an ongoing basis. We attach them to their travel cards and don't even use envelopes and they can get them when they are next in. The are welcome to stop in and pick it up anytime and very rarely do we mail one. Keeps cost and time down and leaves the more elaborate receipt which are not ecessary most of the time for a papertime activity which keeps the patient time more streamlined. My travel card (Dr. Sea's travel card) has a sopt for next appt time and we will use a business card if they want it written. Half the patients put it in their Blackberry's right away and many keep bringing their old appt cards and we reuse them till they are full. Hope that helps.

We have systematically gotten rid of all of ancillary therapies (including massage and orthotics)and so we just use the routing slips for the pt's next appointments. I don't use travel cards (I have ER/SOAP on a Palm), so those who have not prebooked their following appts they are given the slip.

We have been using an EMR for the past few years, and while we try to eliminate paper, we have found it neccesary to continue use a routing slip. It is quite simple, it has a line for a signiture, plus room for chief complaints with a diagram on it to highlight the problem areas. For us it is a great quick reference guide and focus tool to use prior to treatment.
The initial question was regarding routing slips, with our EMR we do not need one. However, I am not sure that paper will be eliminated all together with the use of EMR. I will continue to use the routing slip as a tool to focus on what brought the patient in for treatment, and at times make a quick note to refer to for the next visit.
