I hope you all had a fantastic time in Tahoe! Well with no one to talk too and generally feeling sad, lonely and sorry for myself I spent the last few days reading and going over the last pod call and the ongoing discussion on Brain Maps! Anyway I read this very interesting study via Malik Slosberg’s newsletter and it was discussing this whole theme of brain maps and how you get reorganization of the sensory and motor cortical maps due to pain and dysfunction. But what was most significant is how you can normalize these maps as effectively as possible by spinal manipulation and motor skill training and not just strength training! This is consistent with Stuart McGill’s work who is always advocating that you train the movement not the muscle. Anyway I have no doubt that this understanding will help to deter me from just pounding meat! Anyway the review also went on to emphasize that the training should be performed after the acute phase of pain has ended because pain hinders the positive changes in the brain from occurring with motor-skill training. Again this falls in to our notion of getting a base line level of care! Which obviously really helps with patient management. It also highlights how asinine (thank you Dr Julie) those in our profession are who want to perpetuate these faulty brain maps by prescribing NSAIDs and other pharmaceuticals! Any other thoughts and do let us know how Brain Spa went!
How asinine these medipractors really are!(3 posts) (3 voices)
Brain Spa was, in the words of Dr. Thackeray, "Phenominal!"
We did get a glimpse of the blue eyed beauty of Ireland, Dr. Ed Bates, in photogragh while at CoreStyle, which was BTW the last time you have been state side.;) Your grave, I mean your call. Did you realize that there were cameras in the changing rooms? Anyway, there were alot of brain maps created this past weekend. If you give just a moment to review I will do my best to convey some of what hit home with me the most. As for all the rest of you that volunteered, at Brain Spa, that you read the forum but you don't "contribute". Here is your opportunity!! Share for the sake of others and even more so for yourself. The main reason that I post what I post and as often as I sometimes post is to think things through. I will often start with a thought in mind and by the end I have realized so much more. We all learn differently but at least give it a try. So whoever goes first, if it is not me, start a "new topic" of Brain Spa so that we don't have all this great insight under an "asinine" title. :)
Done my friend....and Hello Dr. Bates, we missed you in Tahoe!!
