After 20 years in practice, I understand how distractions both Affect and Effect our practices and our lives. Like most any experience in your life, its what we learn from it that makes a difference. If you choose not to learn from it and stay a victim, we cannot grow from that point. I have watched many GOOD doctors close their practices because they had too many distractions going on in their lives. They were full of blame and excuses about why they couldn't over come those distractions, hence falling into the victim trap and spiraling in their cesspool of negative emotions. For me, the distractions in my life have set a bar for me to recognize how much I can handle; mentally, emotionally and physically. Having gone through some tough challenges in my practice/life and not just surviving them but thriving afterwards, I now KNOW that there isn't too much that I can't handle. These experiences and distractions have allowed me to expand my consciousness so that when a new patient cancels their appointment, I can say Thank God, because they were probably not suppose to be in this office anyway. With the expansion of my consciousness, it has also allowed me to create new more empowering relationship so that I can handle more new patients in my practice.
As I am sitting here typing this email, a dear friend of mine has only hours of life left and his body has succumbed to the cancer raging through it. Is this a distraction in my day? Yes. Will I stay focused with my patients today? Am I sad about this? Absolutely, but my patient will never know that while I am adjusting them because that is not going to be part of their "Happiness Experience" in my office. Distractions, let learn from them. Enuf said.

Thank for this one, again. I really like the sense of urgency it gives. Not out of fear of where you are but how attainable things can be and not in a terribly long period of time if the focus and dedication is applied.
