Stick That in Your Pipe and Smoke It

Whether it’s your spouse, a friend or your staff, make sure you acknowledge those who keep your bellows going.

By Cathy Sovinsky

A well know organist was performing a concert on a huge, antique organ that was located in an old theatre. This particular organ had bellows that had to be hand pumped by a young boy who was hidden behind a screen so the audience couldnt see him. The first half of the performance went great. The audience was in awe of the amazing old organ and the talent that the organist had displayed. The organist took his bow and accepted the ovation from the audience. As the musician proudly walked into the passageway behind the stage area he heard the boy exclaim, We played well, didnt we sir

The organist haughtily replied, “What do you mean ‘we’” and he continued past the boy.

After intermission the organist made his grand entrance, returning to the imposing five-keyboard console. He reached up dramatically to strike his first note, but when his fingers came down on the keys nothing happened; not a sound was heard.

Through the silence, from behind the screen came the whisper of the young boys voice, “Hey mister, now do you know what ‘we’ means”

Whether its your spouse, a friend or your staff, make sure you acknowledge those who keep your bellows going. Were going to be doing some great leadership and team building at the Chiropractic Performance Summit. Its not only a great way to make your team stronger, its a great reward too.
