Ever Forget? It Happened to Me
So seductive is our intellect and propensity for problem solving that we too often forget our roots, our identity our unique and desperately needed Chiropractic perspective.
We recently attended a presentation by Dr. Daniel G. Amen, a psychiatrist at the forefront of brain and behavioral research. In the room along with us were over a hundred Chiropractors. One of his key points was that too often doctors make a descriptive diagnosis of depression or ADHD as if its that simple.
To illustrate his point he commented that he sees patients with the diagnosis of chest pain. How many different things can cause chest pain he asked his audience. The hands immediately went up and a flurry of scholarly answers filled the room. The audience seemed to feel validated that they could have a meaningful dialogue with such a renowned medical doctor. OK, I was proud of them and, of course, myself for coming up with most of the answers as well. Validated, until my wife, Cathy elbowed me in the ribs and whispered How about, They have a rib out, or maybe They are SUBLUXATED! No one, I mean no one offered the simple truth that Cathy uttered.
Ever forget It happened to me. How would you have answered the good doctor
It is so easy to get reabsorbed in allopathy. In our haste to demonstrate our knowledge we forget our identity from time to time and play someone elses game. So seductive is our intellect and propensity for problem solving that we too often forget our roots, our identity our unique and desperately needed ChiropracTIC perspective.
The philosophy of Chiropractic is remarkably elegant, logical and revolutionary. It is a viable system for health restoration and preservation. Our profession is distinct yet not separate from the health care industry and we contribute unique and vital perspectives as to the underlying cause of disease and strategies for health preservation. Our role is to apply Chiropractic Philosophy, Science and Art with clarity, focus and commitment to those who wish to employ our professional services.
Do you know what it is you do Are you certain Certainty means no doubt, no confusion. If you forget, what will happen to your patients and those to follow Who will carry the torch if not you
And by the way, cut your patients some slack. If a room of Chiropractors can forget or worse, know and not speak, then I suppose we can forgive our patients if they forget what it is we really do. Dont loose your voice.
