A Real Inconvenient Truth

As 2006 comes to a close many of you are facing an inconvenient truth.

By Dr. Frank Sovinsky

As 2006 comes to a close many of you are facing an inconvenient truth. The numbers are just not adding up as you had hoped they would and you have run out of time. So now what do you do? First, remember that failure IS feedback. Failing to hit your target DOES NOT mean you are a failure. Get this straight in your head and with this more useful attitude you can end this year with a fresh perspective and a powerful resolve to make next year a year to remember. There is still time left on the clock to turn your head around. Don’t write December off just yet, you can still get a running start for the New Year.

We all have the right to be discouraged, but not the right to act it! So, as Payton Manning, Quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts says, “Shake it off, rub some dirt on it.”

Remember, growth is a process of shedding, so let go of the disappointments of 2006 and reach for 2007. The best place to begin is with a grateful heart and from this perspective measure 2006 with a deeper statistical analysis.

It is likely that while you were intoxicated with pursuing your goals something profound occurred and you didn’t even feel it. Here’’s what I mean. There are two categories of goals.

Known Goals are the ones you have targeted as worth achieving. They are known to you and to people in your life who are committed to helping you achieve them.

Unknown Goals are deeper qualities and values that surface as a result of your efforts toward your known goals. They are the deeply satisfying achievements that you have temporarily forgotten. Once you reawaken to them your life will have even greater purpose and meaning.

While working toward your known goals last year, one or more of these unknown goals got satisfied. As an example, on your quest to earn more this year you might have attained recognition, better health, parental approval, spousal “buy in”, inner strength, stronger relationships, clarity of vision or more time to enjoy your life.

Here’s what I want you to do. Find a place where you won’t be disturbed and take your journal or note pad and have an interview with yourself. It will go something like this. “So doctor, what one thing did you attain last year that you have wanted for some time?” Write your answer down without editing your thought flow. Put it somewhere where you can glance at it. If need be, put it into a secret code so that you won’t feel judged if someone else reads it. This will work and will give you a powerful anchor for next year’s game.

This is one part of mastering your Chiropractic Expression and it will transform your life because professional development leads to personal development. And when the person you are today meets the person you are destined to be you will leave a legacy, a statement that your life stood for something.
